Choose Schools

Freedom To Choose Schools is a non-partisan organization that believes transformational school leaders are essential to creating high-quality educational opportunities for all students. We champion fair access to quality school options by supporting leaders who are building schools that reflect the needs, values, and aspirations of the families they serve.

We believe parents deserve meaningful choices and that school leaders closest to their communities should have the freedom, support, and capacity to innovate on behalf of students. That is why we work directly with school leaders to strengthen leadership teams, elevate community voice, and build sustainable educational ecosystems centered on excellence, accountability, and student success.

Through advocacy, storytelling, and coalition-building, we ensure historically marginalized families and educators are active participants in shaping the future of public education and expanding pathways to economic opportunity.

Why Choose Schools

School options are essential for marginalized students because they offer pathways out of historically inequitable education systems that often fail to meet their needs. Charter schools, microschools, and homeschooling provide alternatives that are more culturally relevant, personalized, and academically rigorous. Currently, over 3.7 million students are enrolled in charter schools, with many demonstrating higher achievement than their peers in traditional public schools.

At the same time, homeschooling among Black families has more than doubled since 2020, reflecting a growing demand for control over educational quality and environment. Expanding access to diverse school models helps ensure that all students—regardless of race, ZIP code, or income—have the opportunity to thrive.
